How Many: 18 Books
How Much: $56
This week is a bit different. Since I have a total of 18 books, I’m going to break this down into three categories: “Marvel Event Books,” “DC Books,” and “Other Books.”
So, let’s get rolling here........
Marvel Event Books: New Avengers #31, World War Hulk #1, Amazing Spider-Man #541, Captain America #27, Hulk #107, Iron Man #19, World War Hulk: X-Men #1, World War Hulk Frontline #1, X-Men Endangered Species One Shot.
What I thought: New Avengers was about as ‘meh’ as they come. The shock ending was a bit of a letdown. World War Hulk on the other hand was everything I expected and more. Hulk Smash! Amazing Spider-Man continues to roll on with Back in Black, and I just hope that this dark and grim spidey, although cool for a little bit, is replaced with happy spidey or something like that soon. Overall, the main Back in Black story has been quite good so far. Captain America continues to be awesome, and my doubts about this book surviving with cap being dead and all are gone. Hulk, Iron Man, WWH: X-Men, and Frontline all were solid tie ins. At times, they did tread over some of the same ground covered elsewhere, but in the end, I felt like they did add some cool elements to the World War Hulk saga. World War Hulk: X-Men in particular looks like it’s going to be awesome. Hulk and the X-Men fighting......SWEET! All I’m going to say about the X-Men Endangered Species One Shot is that I’m already trying to sell it back to my LCS.
DC Books: Batman Confidential #6, Countdown #46-#45, The Brave and the Bold #4, Flash #13, JLA #10.
What I thought.......
Batman Confidential = Bad
Countdown = Boring
The Brave and the Bold = Flippin’ Awesome
The Flash = Bittersweet
JLA = Confusing, but all in all, I’m glad ‘it’ happened.
I give you the DC Books reviewed in 15 words!
Other: BPRD #4, Spider-Man: Mythos, Sensational Spider-Man #38, Spider-Man/FF #3, Ultimate Spider-Man #110.
What I thought: BPRD is just hard for me to get into for some reason. It’s nowhere near bad, but I can’t say I really enjoy it that much either. Spider-Man Mythos was solid, and the art was the star of the show. Sensational Spider-Man continues to be a very good compliment book to the main ‘Amazing’ title. Spider-Man/FF was very mediocre, but Mike Wieringo’s art is totally awesome. Ultimate Spider-Man has kept the momentum going after the Clone Saga, and this issue, which closed the Ultimate Knights arc, was excellent. Also, bye Mark Bagley! You shall be missed!
Best Book: World War Hulk #1. It exceeded the hype.
Worst Book: X-Men: Endangered Species. Yeah, give me my money back please.
Grade for the week: B
Final Thoughts:.............HULK SMASH!...............
